The dignity of young men is their strengths while that of old men is their experiences, said the Bible. Old is relative nowadays. What was old to you when you were fifteen? The dignity of young men is their strengths while that of old men is their experiences, said the Bible. Old is relative nowadays. What was old to you when you were fifteen? You might think old was about thirty or forty. So elders could be just in their thirties. However, in my opinion, life's experiences start to be precious around the mid forties.

Let's turn the clock back, during your childhood, the older you were, the smarter and more mature you thought you were. Like, when you were ten, you would think you know more about when you were five. And when you were twelve, you strongly believed you learnt more than when you were ten. With time passed by, you would know more and gain more experience.

Another will say "When you reached 15, you better leave home since you know everything.". It applied to all of us. Think about this, no matter what age you are, you can look back and say something like, "if I knew then what I know now," which means with a little knowledge you could have made something difference. Age comes wisdom, wise person knows that they don't really know everything, and they know they need to keep improving themselves.

Engaging an old person in conversation is just like digging a treasure. You can know and learn more by hearing what they say, as they underwent more than us. It's just like we are reading a book of life, with lots of experience and advice. There are lots of knowledge that is not written down in any books, for instance, many parents learn how to raise a child from what they learnt from their parents or emulating others, instead of reading books. The experience that the old people got is rich, and valuable to us.

When saying learn from the elders, actually what can we really gain? By talking to women, you may gain advise on raising children, keeping a long-lasting spousal relationship, or even getting along with our peers. However, I can't deny that there are always examples of failure. Is that meaning there is no way we should hear them? On the contrary, with their failures, you will know what is right.

Just like if a woman failed at her marriage, she may know what mistakes she did when she looked back. Therefore she can act as a model to teach not to do those mistakes in your life. Moreover, if a woman raised a child unsuccessfully, her failure will also be treated as a piece of precious advice to you.

Apart from old women, how about old men? Younger men can always read many tips of life from old men. When old men looked back his life, he might see how he hurt his family, his friends etc. He can give you many real examples, and it is hardly not to accept them as advice and opinion.

The answer is NO, if he didn't spend any time to take care of his own children. However, if he regrets about how he treated his wife before, you could listen to his advice that could prevent you from repeating his steps. I could continue giving you this kind of examples, but it is useless if you don't understand what these examples mean.
